At 2 am the fire alarm went off, and a rowdy party with a heavy beat ramped up its activities, intruding on my “quiet room”. So it was 6 o’clock before I ventured out into what began as a light rain. I headed towards the old town, and a feast of brick. I passed the monument to postal workers, an imposing brick wall, flower and vegetable markets setting up, an even more imposing brick building, statues of a knight in armour and an astronomer, a millstream straddled by a triangle of brick, and Prussian hags or holy stones. And the rain came down.

Like the trip up the Clyde, the weather was a godsend in fact. I’m off to buy a decent raincoat, though.

Caught up in the magic, and your gentle humour, and shiny radishes and people pulling a trolley. The folks are creeping into your shots, whether by design or because they just wouldn’t clear off while you stood getting soaked 🙂 🙂 Then off to change, presumably?

Well i wouldn’t have gone outside the door unless I absolutely had to , I hate rain! I’m glad you did though and shared more of Gdansk’s treasures. The holy stones are magical and the triangular mill is so unusual, we need more triangle buildings, it’s fabulous!

I have to confess that when I went outside the door it was only light rain, which reached its heaviest when I was furthest from base. So please don’t give me credit for being a rain walker. Although I really enjoyed it, and saw the world very differently. The Prussian hags were a treat gleaming in the wet: I met a few of them around town. However I’ll be buying a good raincoat for both myself and my camera before I venture out in rain again.

Love the fact you set out in all weathers, Meg! You’ve given us some interesting views of Gdansk….love the triangular building over the mill stream, the details on facades of buildings and those Holy stones.

Oh this is lovely. You wet in Gdansk, me wet from Wales. And you’ve made the most of it with all these fascinating glimpses. Rain, who cares! I also agree with Gilly, we need more triangular buildings. This one is truly spectacular. Quite beyond my imagining.

Rain or not these are terrific photos Meg. Stunning architecture. You are noticing so much in your new surroundings – the triangular building is lovely and I like the way it sits over the stream, reminds me of a building in Canterbury, a city I still have not written about.

We are familiar with early morning walks as well when playing a tourist 🙂 The upside is no crowds no where… an a possibility to have a nap during the day!
