Miscellanea

My photo collection always ends up with photos that don’t fit into a post. So “miscellanea” becomes their home.

This looks as if it could be significant, but I have no more luck reading its semiotics than I do reading Polish.

How strange to spot an Aboriginal-style kangaroo on a sign opposite the pre-school! The sign translates thus:

Don’t touch kangaroos and other representatives of Australian fauna

Goodness knows what it actually means! (And I didn’t actually read it. I used my Collins dictionary. So I could well be wrong.)

I’m sure these are functional rather than sculptural but I like their shape and their textural variations.

This one is for Jo, lover of trams. I couldn’t resist its length, the dappling, and the view from the window.

This image has so many of the things I like to photograph: a frame, reflections, push bikes, contrast of old and new, gardens, lines.

Nature does assemblages so beautifully, although I may have moved the feather a smidgen.

Is this an image I should recognise? And why is it on a fence post at Królikarnia Palace?

This window through a tree suggest a hollow interior, but the tree’s thriving.

There are patterns in everything even drab concrete.

So zooming up is not always a disaster. I’ll have to do it more often.

While Jaś is fixated on a fish tank in the pet shop down the side street, I look around patiently wondering if he’ll ever tire, and spot this reflection.

Interesting miscellany, Meg – I love the tram shot for precisely the reasons you state!

God love you! I thought I was feeling strange this morning, but you’re even stranger! 🙂 🙂 In a nice way. Thank you for my magnificent tram view. I shall imagine myself dinging the bell 🙂 I love the reflection too, and the ‘dumb bells’, though I’m sure they’re not! No harm in watching fish. Have a happy day, sweetheart 🙂 🙂

    • Jaś was finally detached from them when the young man inside said “You can come in and stay with me and watch them”. At which point Jaś ran for cover. Sounds sinister as I repeat it, but didn’t seem so at the time! May your day be full of the pleasures that trams give.

How magical is that tree window! And that wire is quite something too. Fascinating to see the things that catch your eye, Meg.

Just to add my bonkers to the mix of your strange friends, I don’t think that’s a kangaroo, I think its a head louse! Love the reflection, looking up and the tree is wonderful!

Oh, come on,l you HAVE to find out why that sign is there – Australian fauna and other representatives are not applicable is how I managed to translate it, but what does it actually mean? Love the reflection in the car and the looking up. Wonderful miscellany 🙂

    • I need to get a Polish translator: J and I had a falling out over it because I was too impatient when he was cogitating a translation. My daughter’s now finished work and she might be able to illuminate both its translation and its context – if I remember to ask. It’s on a gate to what looks like a normal domestic building – but I’m usually focused on a pair of crazy 3yo cyclists when I pass it, so my attention is obviously not on linguistic mysteries. Just on preserving the lives of innocent pedestrians!

The car reflection was my pick, and the starting point for the post, although I’d been collecting oddities for a while. I had it fixed in my tiny brain that zooming destroyed clarity and I was better off cropping, but the other photo you singled out gave that theory a kick in the pants. I like just missing a bus: it gives you time to look around – and up.
